Dr. Peter D. Marston, PhD, LP

Peter D. Marston is a clinically trained forensic and industrial psychologist. His forensic practice focuses on comprehensive assessment services in sex, violence and property offenses, child custody, juvenile reference, personal injury and loss, competency and commitment, and other cases. In addition, he provides consultations and evaluations related to employment disputes such as harassment and wrongful termination. The combination of his clinical training and industrial psychology background uniquely prepares him to address career-related legal issues.

Dr. Marston has served as a forensic psychological consultant to Dakota County Community Corrections since 1993 and conducts all sex offense-related evaluations for the Dakota County courts. He has also served as a resource and an expert witness for the Minnesota Attorney General's office in conducting evaluations and providing expert testimony in sexually dangerous persons and psychopathic personality commitment cases. Dr. Marston has conducted evaluations, given expert testimony and provided consultation routinely during the past 20 years to attorneys in the First Judicial District Public Defender's Office. In the past 10 years, he has expanded his forensic practice to include similar work for public defenders and attorneys in other districts and counties, including Hennepin, Ramsey and Washington Counties.

Dr. Marston's intensive early background and training in psychotherapy with adults, couples, families, adolescents and with the courts, dating from 1971-1983, provides the experiential base and seasoning upon which his clinical and forensic judgment is informed. He currently maintains a limited private psychotherapy practice.

In conjunction with his forensic practice, Dr. Marston has managed a successful industrial-organizational practice since 1983. He has served as a professional in residence since 1994 at the Center for Family Enterprise of the University of St. Thomas. For two years during the I980's, Dr. Marston worked as a senior consultant for Hay Management Consultants, a worldwide human resources and compensation consulting firm. Prior to that, he worked with smaller, regional human resources consulting firms for two years.

In his industrial practice, Dr. Marston has provided consulting services to businesses nationwide ranging from small service firms to Fortune 100 companies such as General Mills, Ceridian, Providian, American Express Investment Advisors, Dayton-Hudson, Stride Rite, First Bank Systems and 3M. He has experience in a variety of industries, including advertising and marketing, financial services, medical products, information services, retail, manufacturing and government.

Dr. Marston completed his Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Texas Tech University in 1980. He concluded his doctoral work with a clinical psychology residency at the Northwestern University School of Medicine Institute of Psychiatry. He received his A.B. with distinction and honors in psychology from the University of Michigan in 1971.
